Electrical Vault Fire Forces Evacuations in Chicago

Aug. 14, 2024
Chicago firefighters, who handled the incident as a Level 2 hazmat, had to wait for the power to be shut off.

Chicago firefighters had to stand by and watch flames and smoke coming from an electrical vault on North Green Street.

A nearby hotel was evacuated and the street was closed as firefighters waited for utility workers, CBS Chicago reported.

Fire officials told the media they handled the incident as a Level 2 hazmat. Even after the fire was extinguished, the evacuations remained in place as there was no power in the area.
